About the Henna
I use only fresh, natural henna powder, usually imported from Rajasthan, which is commonly known to produce the best quality henna on the planet. The paste is hand-mixed with lemon juice and mild aromatherapy grade pure essential lavender oil to produce a rich, dark, and lasting stain with a pleasant fragrance. The product contains NO chemical dyes, preservatives or additives and is generally safe for use during pregnancy and with children. Consult your doctor if you have specific concerns.
Please be advised that I NEVER use “black” henna, as it contains PPD, a harmful chemical hair dye that can cause blistering, ugly permanent scars, internal damage, and death in rare cases. There are a few natural methods used to bring forth a deeper, darker stain that will closely look black in color. I embrace these natural methods and strongly discourage and advise against the use of chemically enhanced henna. For more information about the dangers of “black henna,” please click here.
The natural color of the henna will look black when it is first applied. Most of the pictures are taken at this time, before removal of the henna paste. After the paste has been removed, the color of the henna will be much lighter and reddish-brown in color. The color of the design will gradually darken as the henna has time to set into the skin. Most designs take 24 to 48 hours to fully reach their optimal depth of color. The designs usually last approximately 7-10 days, but may last longer, depending on skin, environmental conditions, and aftercare. It is recommended to avoid contact with water for the first 24 hours, if possible, to optimize the stain results.
